Wood offcuts heat our factory

Offcuts from saws and planers go straight into the heating plant — and warm the production hall. In Voss we have run the same cycle since 1948.

Step into our production hall on a Monday morning and you feel it at once: the smell of fresh-cut pine, the sound of running planers, and an even warmth that does not come from any radiator. It comes from the timber itself.

A cycle in timber

When we make a sliding door frame, there are offcuts. Stubs from the saws, shavings from the planers, edge timber that has no place in the finished frame. Instead of sending it on as waste, all of it goes straight into our heating plant — and warms the same hall in which we stand and work.

It is an old idea, and a good one. Nothing is wasted, and heating becomes part of production — not a separate cost.

Certified at every step

Our timber comes from FSC-certified forests — the most rigorous forest certification in the world. It means the forest is managed so it stays just as rich for the next generation, and that we can trace every plank back to its source.

The whole business is also certified as Miljøfyrtårn. That covers everything from transport and energy use to how we handle chemicals and waste. Two certifications that together give us confidence the craft holds up — for the environment too.

Craft that lasts for generations

Since 1948 we have built frames for Norwegian homes. The first thing we learned was that good pine deserves to be used right through — and that what does not fit into the frame can still serve. That is perhaps the simplest form of sustainability: use everything, and use it well.
